They have been a customer of mine for five years, nice people and not heard anything but good.

Will imagine it will be good word about them.

Jap discos suffer none of the rust that uk discos suffer and tend to be much better condition as well.
Check the speedos are changed to mph and that the tyres and paint work is fine as some can be bleached and suffer laquer (sp) and sidewall perishing with age.

Buy one and get it fully waxoiled and you will have a nice disco that as long as you keep the car clean and well maintained will last for years.

Why don't they suffer from the same rust problems? In my ignorance, I'd have thought the Japanese climate is similar to our own?

Not true, but it's a nice line for the importers to put on their websites.

Plenty of rusty Japanese cars - the reason you don't see them often is presumably because the buyer at the other end didn't bid on them.

Are you sure?

It's a very common misconception if so...

Yes, "In snowy and cold regions in Japan, road administrators spread de-icing salts on roads to ensure traffic safety in winter" - http://www.aipcrquebec2010.org/images/stories/pdf/...

All Japanese cars are low-mileage, they are all perfectly maintained and are sold at three years old because the Shaken is so strict, Japanese cars are never clocked, traffic is so heavy in Japan they are never driven hard or quickly, repaired cars aren't allowed to be sold at auctions etc.

Find me a mint condition 10 year Discovery without a rusty boot floor in the UK! You can't, but there are plenty available in Japan.

They use glycol for de-icing more than salt which doe'snt corrode cars, some areas do you use salt but not many. Generally its unusual to find rusty jap cars compared to the UK.

Not disagreeing about the condition of most imports, but I've seen a newly-imported R32 GT-R (which arrived on M+S tyres) which was in a state underneath.
