Range Rover Sport tdv6 hse reliability

Looking to buy a used Range Rover Sport, Will be a tdv6 hse. What are peoples experiences reference to reliability? I have heard a few stories of big bills...... is this to be expected or just a minority that have been unlucky?
The car would be a 2005-2006 so wouldnt have warranty. Do RR offer an extended warranty? if not anyone have experience of Warranty Direct.
