Can anybody tell me the price i should pay for a new rear cross member for a 2001 td5 it seems most places arent intrested and i have quotes from £250 to £1000 others are saying about £450, i just want a proper job done not a quick bodge.

Well its a good days work.

Rough idea would be £600 ish ---my thoughts:-



£150 for new cross member

£50 new bolts for rear body+tow hitch + weld consumables

£350 Labour 10hrs x £35per hr

Thanks for the reply i no its a big job i think a local landy specailist might be the way to go as they say they do at least one a week and seem to no what they are doing they said it would cost £450 still if the jobs right i am happy.

In order to do the job properly. The rear floor needs to come out.

My defender td5 as started to kick out a ploom of black smoke mostly when changing up in 1 or 2 gear then nothing is this normal or is it over fueling?.

is the rear cross member corroded ?
