Hi changing up from 1 to 2 she poof a ploom of black smoke whats wrong now is it over fueling as its only in low gears when in 4 or 5th its ok.?

smoke is fine, infact I'd of the opinion that if diesel doesn't smoke it has something wrong with it hehe




On a more serious note, the smoke is unburnt fuel. And the more fuel you put in the more it'll burn, but the more it'll not burn too. This is the very essence of diesel tuning.

Too much smoke is bad, but this is very rare on stock vehicles. It really should only produce smoke under heavy loads and acceleration, if it's doing it all the while then there may be something else up.

Thanks for your reply it only smokes while increasing speed and seems to produce a poof of black smoke as i change gear.

Personally it sounds pretty normal and I wouldn't worry, but I could be wrong though.

if it was allot of black smoke i would say probably the EGR unit sticking as this is a common problem on the td5, although only about £40 to fix if you know how a spanner works
