Discovery 3 - 1st and reverse gear too close? - Manual

does anyone else who has a manual Discovery 3 find first and reverse gear are stupidly close to each other or am I being too ham fisted? It seems almost every day I have one event where the gear box wont select first but instead goes straight into reverse - I'm not even pushing down on gear stick - they just seem to be so close together. I'm giving drivers behind me a heart attack every time it happens! Anyone else found that? Its a 2005 with 60k on clock
