Absolutely gutted !!

The wife's RR was nicked during the week, scrotes broke in through a window and lifted the keys whilst we all slept. Also nicked my laptop which has all the kids baby pics on (not backed up).

A very upsetting experience !

It could have been a lot worse if one of us had interrupted them so I know its not the end of the world but still very unpleasant.

Gutted for you, especially the laptop with all your pictures on it.
I think there is a thread here somewhere you can add the cars details to, in case it shows up somewhere?
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=473902&mid=26878&nmt=Stolen Cars

Worth adding the details to this WIKI. Happy to update it for you if you want - post up the details here (VRN, location of theft etc) and I'll sort.

I feel for you mate, our 6 week old Disco 4 was stolen the exact same way 6 weeks ago while we slept and they took other personal items including camera and my sons DS, scumbags. Like you said we thought the same, could have been worse, as I actually woke up to go to the loo around the time they were here, so they probably woke me up......

Hope they catch the Tw@s and you get the laptop back.....

This is an unpleasant side effect of improved vehicle security systems. Cars are too difficult to steal without the keys, so the thief has to break into the house to get them. This happened to a friend a couple of weeks back, house burgled for his RS4 keys. Fortunately for him they didn't find them. Bad news about the baby pics though.

Just been told that the car has been found !!

I have to go down and see it (apparently its fine !!)

Anything I should check for ? (apart from the obvious) The insurance have agreed for it to be inspected by a mechanic (not just their assessor).

The locks and ignition will need replacing and the remote for the heating will need doing, can they get a new remote for the auxillary heating or will it all need replacing.

Any tips/advice greatly appreciated !!

Thanks

yes - you can get a new remote for the heating - however you have to wait till its +4 deg to test that heater comes on [so I was informed by garage other day]

Always fit a tracker to any high-end vehicle - especially one that can disable the vehicle remotely. Sorry to hear that personal stuff may have been lost - hopefully this Black Swan event will increse your awareness in the future.

Good luck!

We had a car stolen in similar circumstances last year.

The car was recovered a few days later without keys.

Our insurance did not pay for the new lock set, in excess of £1000, due to a clause relating to lost or stolen keys limiting the claim to about £200 I think.

So we paid for the work and made no claim on the insurance.

We later discovered when trying to sell the car that it was listed on the insurance register as stolen recovered.

We asked for this to be removed as there had been no damage and we made no claim. This was rejected despite numerous calls.

We list approx 20% of the cars value when we sold due to this. Personally I think it's better if the car isn't recovered, but I guess you have no choice!

I hope you fare better than us.
