Classic Range Rover rear hub questions.
Discussion
As per title. Its a '92 vogue SE if that makes any difference.
1. What size socket do I need to buy to remove the rear hub nut?
2. When re-assembling, the book says I need to achieve between 0.01 mm and 0.05 mm end float. As I dont have a dial gauge, if I adjust to achieve the smallest amount of end float that it is possible to achieve, will that be OK or should I buy a dial gauge?
3. If there are 24 splines on the outboard end of the half shaft, does that mean there are 24 splines on the inboard end, or is life not that simple?

1. I think the socket is something like 51mm - but as far as I know it's the same size as the hub nuts on all Series vehicles, Discos, Defenders etc and you can but a 'proper' box spanner for about £5.1. What size socket do I need to buy to remove the rear hub nut?

2. I recently did the bearing on my 90 and, after re-assembling, put the wheel back on and tightened the nut through the wheel centre until I just got no play, then locked the tab washers at this.
3. No, it's not as simple as the. To be 100% sure it is worth taking the old one off ans counting the number of splines. However, if you quote the number of splines on the outside end (which you can see) to a suppler they should be able to give you the right part.
Happy spannering
