Have done a quick search on here and also perused www.disco3.co.uk, but can't seem to find a concise buyers' guide.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Currently looking to purchase a Disco 3 - what are the major things to look out for? I am looking for an SE auto minimum spec.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi, we only had a D3 for 18 months but in that time had repeated problems with the electronic handbrake, squeaky brakes, irratic 'bing bong' noises from the dashboard and an air suspension failure. These are probably a good place to start. When they work they are super though.

Had one for three years and had the same problems apart from the suspension. Door locks kept failing too. Loved it but got rid when warranty was up.

Friend had one - it was largely fine apart from suspension, and the Dealer was incompetent.

It went in for service and MOT one year, come next year it went back - and they couldn't find the previous MOT, turns out they never did one but charged for it anyway. My friend should've noticed, but could've been in trouble had anything happened during that year.

How did he tax the car?

Thanks very much for the posts above.

Any thoughts on what's happening with prices on these at the moment? I've put in bids on a few cars now and have been out-bid every time (where the actual sale price has been significantly above my max offer). And I certainly have not been "low-balling" the sellers by any means...

4x4s in general took a mahoooooosive hit about 18 months ago, prices are now returning to where they "should" be, so the bargains are long since gone, you'll have to haggle hard.

Typical of my financial luck as I sold mine around then and lost a fortune. Prices certainly have got a lot firmer.

The dealers near to me struggle to get D3 or D4 stock. Selling like hot cakes still.

I owned a D3 for 3 years 8 months and covered 44K miles. The only issues were a faulty parking sensor and front ball joints. D3 has been replaced with a D4.

Owned a D3 TDV6 HSE with all the toys for 18 months and 60k mls. Apart from some minor niggles (door lock, EGR valve) nothing major. Owned BMW's before and after, with substantially more trouble. Loved the D3 to bits since it is such a mighty and capable car. I am seriously thinking about buying one again.
