My first post total newbie needs some advice on Defender 90 swb.

At long last i am in a position to acquire a a Defender, tomorrow i am going to view a 2008 swb defender 90.

I have heard that it is not a good idea to do too much motorway driving as it ruins the tracking, the abolute max amount i will do is about 300 miles a week.

Can anyone advise.

Much Tks

Defender......tracking........nope, you'll have to explain I'm afraid.confused
Used my Defender for about ten thousand motorway miles over the last couple of years with no adverse effects. It still wanders like a lost cat.

Well Crossflow, as i say total newbie, not just to site but also Defender.

What i have been told is that it is not good to use a Defender too much on the motorway, as and i use this sentence very loosely, "its not good for um" however if your doing 10k a year no major issues then it's happy days !!!

Much Tks

I can't see how it can do any damage - these cars are designed for some serious off-roading after all!! It may be damaging on you, however. They are great cars but not as comfy for motorway cruising as a saloon car or Discovery, for example.

Tks CPAS , going to try and limit the mway driving, will still have to do a bit, i know they aren't ideal on mway but can't hold off any longer gotta get one, have test driven and the update version whilst perhaps not as pure as old models is really not that bad, noise bit less and sixth gear does seem make a difference.

Cheers

The TDCi 6 speed defender is a dream to drive on the motorway.

At 70-80mph they are quite and just brisk along.

They have a speed limiter fitted to limit to 84mph [ this is more to do with tyres]

I have a 110 which is re-mapped giving 165 bhp and the speed limiter removed....am sure in the right country it would cruise all day at 85.

The TDCi is far superior in cabin comfort to the TD5.

Bear in mind proper Land Rovers aren't like normal cars in so many ways.
It may feel like it's wandering a bit at higher speed, and clattering a bit, but then again they weigh in the region of two tonnes, have big fat tyres and more UJs than C3PO's pelvis.
Mine knocks along at 70 quite happily (and I had an indicated 89 once when late for a ferry), but you have to grab it by the balls sometimes and remind it who's boss.
Compare it to a Munich Bahnstormer and you're bound to be disappointed.

...but has no flaps, and a man shouldn't live without flaps.
(Those who know will understand).

I've done around 10000 motorway miles in TDCi 90's fitted with the 6 speed box-all of which were in total comfort. The latest ones fitted with the 6 speed are much better on the motorway than previous models.
In reply to the comment about the flaps, yes it is regrettable that they are not there any more but i've always had problems with squaks/leaks with them in the previous landys I've owned. The ventilation-warming and cooling is far better in the latest models so it's a price worth paying imo.
