Not quite another "which car" thread, but am looking at the moment for a Defender - I've owned both a 90 and a 110 previously - liked the 90 more, until it got nicked. Top of the list is a 90 Hardtop, but Mrs Chaffs has just delivered Little Miss Chaffs (14 weeks early but that is probably another thread) and with an imminent house move I need to get an additional car sorted pronto. Having now thought about the whole child seat thing, I was thinking perhaps a 110 CSW is better .. but I really want the practicality of a Hardtop, then I started to think about the twin cab. So my question is does the twin cab offer the best bits of a HT and CSW, albeit with the slower, less agile performance (come on its all relative) of a 90 or is the pickup bit too small to be of practical use without one of those Ifor Williams tops?

110 double cab quite handy if chucking Shep in the back or a stinking chain saw.

Will Mrs be happy putting Miss's new £300 push chair into the pick up load area ?? .... think your on to a CSW !!

1stly congratulations on your new addition - ours was 12 weeks early and 4 lbs. Most stressful event of our lives - hang in there - you'll find the NHS SCBU staff amazing. My son is 7 next week and very very healthy !

2ndly - we have recently got back into Defenders after 2 years away in a Mini Clubman of all things - you won't regret it

Good luck

I have been running this for a while now and it is a great vehicle (stage 2 with GKN overdrive)but we are expecting in 10 weeks and I don't about the pram in the back scenario.

Don't know what your budget is but the new 110 XS Utility could be quite useful......2 rows of seats and then a nice big open back with no windows which you could load right up.

A 110 csw can be converted into a utility by using the side panels from an 88" hardtop wink

Perfect fit! Get a dog guard behind the middle row of seats and robert's your fathers etc.

One thing to note, modern child seats are very long, check that yours will fit in the defender!

Well with a SW you can move the rear seats back to help with the child seats fitting, be well worth taking a seat along to see if it fits before you buy a double cab

Had 90s and then purchased a 110 double cab, handy for the kids and dogs I thought. Sold it after 18 months, could'nt get to grips with the extra 20''. Given the choice I would have a 90 for me and a Disco for the rest of the gang.
Oh, I did have the choice and thats whats in the drive- perfect combo.

The deed has been done & I am now the proud owner of an 02 Double cab - picked up Saturday morning from Adrian at Blackwood 4x4 who did me proud, and I've already helped friends move and cleared the garden. Child seat fits fine and with it having a cubby box, good access from front to back for Mrs Chaffs and the wee one when she gets to come home. Just need to decide now on when / where I can pick up some black chequer plate and Boost or SVX alloys ..

Would like to go back to another Defender at some point. But at the moment have to many others to contend with. I think the next one will be a puma engined one.I couldn't see myself getting another nice 50th again. I dont think decent ones will be around the time i look for one.
