Hi

After 7 years and 73,000 miles of trouble free motoring with my ML270 I feel it is time for a change before something blows and ruins our relationship....

The wife fancies a Disco 4 but I have a RR itch I'd like to scratch and have seen the car as described above at Hillingdon LR. They also have a 59 plate D4 HSE with 7,000 miles - both are stornaway grey with black interior.

We probably do about 10,000 miles a year. Obviously the RR has a bit of a chunky mileage for an 18 month old car - the question is, looking at keeping the car for 3-5 years, should I go with my heart for the RR or go with the D4 for an easy life?

While I realise it is "how long is a piece of string" - the key questions are which is better built, more reliable and likely to keep its value better over, say, a 5 year window? Also, starting with 26k miles, am I leaving myself wide open to a world of pain before I even start?

Any first hand experience gratefully received.

Finally, I am awaiting them to come back with a trade in price for my ML - do you think they should give me a better price against the RR (or the D4 perhaps?) or will it be the same proce regardless as they wil ljust ship it off to the auction?

Cheers

Phil

Go and drive both.

The D4 is a great car but the Vogue is in a different league all together.

£44k for a 26k mile 09-plate Vogue seems very cheap, we're retailing a 57 plate Vogue TDV8 with 11k miles at £40999 just now and that is a cheap car.

So, in summary - Vogue. smile

I would go for the Disco4, the FFRR is a great car in 3.6l diesel format but the latest model has a 4l engine- this will be the car of choice in the second hand market in a few years. The D4 has recently had its update and is selling well-no discounts on new ones, on the road I don't think there will be a lot in it performance wise. The Disco may lose a little on the interior but is great for its 7 seat practicality.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think long term the D4 is perhaps the more sensible buy, especialy with 7 seats as I have 3 kids!

Strangely enough, the garage offered me £1k more on the trade in against the D4 than the RR - I would have thought they would have been keener to sell the RR given the D4 is a new model.

The D4 they have may well be their demo which they need out of, hence the extra grand.

I think the D4 is a demo, they also have a silver HSE at the same price.

u can get a discount on a D4, but it's nothing fantastic - about 4 pcnt tops. if u have 3 kids then i'm afraid it's the D4 every time, there is no bigger luxury than space (when it comes to keeping children happy) !
