Is it the wrong time to sell 4x4's?
Discussion
A couple of months ago i listed a couple of my 4x4's one being a 03 Reg Freelander, the other a P38 4.6 HSE.
I belive i wrote what was good adverts providing plenty of information, just unfortunatly lacking any great photos (due to not owning a camera).
Both cars recieved absolutely no calls, even though the price was below the Which car guide price. Even after testing and dropping the price a further £500 to see if anyone bites there was nothing.
Anyhow roll on to today, I put the Freelander into auction with a silly low reserve price (£800 under trade value) and again nothing. We had one private bid of over half less than the trade value of which minus auction fee we would have nearly no money at all so had to reject. (We buy any car even offered slightly more!)
Is this a trend in the 4x4 market atm, are they simply not selling or am i doing something wrong?

Which auction did you use ? I hear Brightwells in Leominsterare very good...any one experienced them ?
The car is with Blackbushe Auction, we have decided to put it in one further week, our reserve remains low so we will see. padgett said:
Not sure where in Berkshire you are, but i have a spare digital camera you can use if it helps. I'm in finchampstead near Wokingham.
Thank you, i may well have to take you up on that if it does not sell this week. I am just the otherside of the a329 (Binfield). So just up the road really. I will give you a shout if the camera is needed. Again, Thanks.E36Rob said:

Its the wrong time of year for 4x4's, they were doing really well about January/February time, particularly so with the bad winter we had. Saying that though if you got offered even less than webuyany car then that does seem bad. Both the cars you mention are going to struggle to make a high price though, especially the Rangey, and those book prices are only a guide after all, sometimes cars make more, sometimes they won't even make bottom book.
I think the other poster has a valid point about the lack of pics, even a fairly modest digital camera can give great results.
Just to update and for interest I have had 2 email enquiries since advertising on Sunday. Neither have come to anything. Hopefully it will shift soon.
Out of curiosity I also put it through webuyanycar website and it came back with a value which is probably at least half of the lowest priced ones I have seen on PH, Autotrader etc

Got my P38 in the PH classifieds now. Only a standard advert so we'll have to wait and ses if there are any takers. Bit of a mission to find it though as most of the ads are premium paid for ones.
Surely with your 87 months as a PH'r you should get premium ads for free.edc said:

Not counting my chickens as nobody has seen it or offered anything yet but I have my fingers crossed.
