Mk1 Discovery – Potential smoker?
Discussion
Having moved back out of the city the area I’ve moved seems to have really poor roads.
Rumours of no gritting for about 4 miles in either direction, the existence of numerous pots holes and choppy tarmac, one car wide roads and the fact that every time it rains heavily the roads flood is beginning to focus my attention on the job which will be winter driving.
While I hope that a set of winter tyres will be the worst I need to do I am beginning to consider a 4x4 and hence a Discovery Mk1 (because they appear to be relatively simple, cheap and have decent ride quality)
Needs to be able to deal with standing water and pot holes at more than 5 mph as well as provide smooth ride over the badly surfaced roads and cope with steep hills in icy weather and a couple of long motor way trips a month.
Everyone mentions chassis corrosion and that fact they handle like old school 4x4’s. What else should I be looking for as I’ve yet to find a comprehensive buyers guide on the web?
