I'm looking at Landy Defenders.

L-o-a-d-s of them have rotten bulkheads under the windshield, some it seems... have it there but the lower bulkhead is in OK condition.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions:

The bulkhead corner panels are quite cheap, circa £20 a pair - are they just welded over the (treated) rusty ones as a patch? Or are they cut out and replaced?

How much does this cost usually?

Is the lower bulkhead rust / rot going to cause MOT failure?

I had my eye on this one - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

6.2litre V8 diesel biggrin

But as you can see the windscreen corners are gone... so I need an idea of what kind of remedial work is needed on this stuff!

Cheers. biggrin

Re-built my Series 3 bulkhead last year. Had to replace both corners, footwells, A posts and bottom brackets...

I have seen bulkheads where the replacement corners have just been welded over the top of the rust and it looks st..

An hour with a grinder, welding set and a bit of filler makes a far better job..

Not sure of the cost as I do all my own repairs but the corners were the easiest job by far..

If its a minter I would have said £400 was cheap..

Having had to replace footwells, Posts etc I can now understand why they are over a grand for a refurbed Bulkhead..
