Defender Insurance
Discussion
We have just agreed to buy a defender 90 hardtop. It is county spec on an 03 plate.
Best quote I can get is £500 as it is a third car so no no claims to use.
Adrian Flux wanted over £1300.00 even though my car is insured with them and they said they would mirror my ncb!!!
It is for my wife and I to drive, good postcode in Harrogate, clean licence but wife has 2 minor bumps in 5 years and I had a theft from my old house 4 years ago.
Both over 30. Does this seem reasonable do you think (£500 quote), and are there any recomended insurers please (some won't touch the Landie as they think it is a van).

I have an older (and much less valuable) 90 (1991 J Plate). My renewal from Adrian FLux was higher than I wanted to pay so I got a quote from Footman James of £115 on a classic policy with limited mileage of 3000k. Adrian Flux then amended their original quote to match it - but this was the first time they had mentioned a classic policy. I'm not sure how old the car has to be to be on their classic policy but it's worth asking, especially as a third vehicle. I am 42 and the wife is 36, and she had a small claim a couple of years ago. Likewise, I cannot use my NCB as it's my 2nd car.

Adrian Flux wanted 520 quid for a 1997 Defender 90 hard top. 45 years old, mirrored 40% no claims, decent post code. They then wanted 1300 when I bought a new Defender XS. Direct Line wanted 520 quid for the same vehicle. I can't figure out where they got the 1300 from but all the same, shopping around is clearly worth it.
Thanks for all the advice on this. In the end Direct Line still came out cheapest as NFU didn't call back to quote, and Lancaster came out at over £1400!?! Tried foreman James but they wouldn't quote without taking the NCB that we were using on one of our other cars.
Anyway picked it up today and its fantastic, so thanks for your help both on this thread and previously.
