Disco 4-lights
Discussion
Time to replace the Disco 3, looking at the SE v HSE- the main differences are the headlights and seats. The base models are fitted with the Audi lookalike LEDs but apparently thy're only wired up on the HSE????
Anyone know whats involved to get them operational. Also, any great difference in Xenon lighting performance over the standard Halogen?????

My understanding was that on all models of the D4 and MY10 RRS the DRLs are fitted, but are inoperable. They are controlled via diagnostics jack.
LR intend to make them operable as part of service/recall program before the legislation comes in 2011(or 12 can't remember) that all new cars have DRLs.
Doesn't make sense fitting something and then making it inoperable, with a view of updating later. From a cost and logistics point of view.
Only reason I could think of is DRLs would increase fuel consumption, albeit a tiny amount. And LR didn't want to make it's consumption figures across it's range worse before it has too, by making the DRLs operable.
Sounds crazy but a LR Dealer could advise.

Agree with you you entirely. But couldn't think of any other reason why LR would fit something at build and make it inoperable.
With a plan to make it operable at a later date as part of a service/recall/enhancement program, which would cost LR money to implement.
There must be a very good reason for them doing it............
