Thinking that it may be prudent to buy a set of original wheels with the standard norrower tyre for using over winter.

Where would be a good place to look for a mint set and what sort of price would be fair?

What original. Over the 25 year production run the factory fit wheels changed afew times. eBay or a breakers has to be an obvious place to look. Or ask some local bods from your local Landy club.

If you mean the 3-spoke alloys, they're easy enough to find in breakers, ebay, Land Rover owners clubs, local paper, Land Rover mags, etc.

The alternative is grab a copy of Land Rover Owner and look through the adverts for new tyres - a set of 205/80/16 AT's on silver steel wheels should come for less than £400 for remoulds, a bit more for BF Goodrich's and the like.

Lovely Overfinch by the way thumbup

Thanks. It is on Bently Turbo tyres which don't exactly work in snow conditions. My normal 94 classic had stick thin 3 spokes with a Michelin compromise tyre and I could drive it all over the West Country on packed ice and it was quite happy.

Seeing as I've sold that one and just have the OverFinch I suspect it would be prudent to get a nice set of winter tyres on standard wheels to keep in the garage.

Would I be right in assuming that a 94 LSE would use the same wheels as a 91 - 93 and these were 3 spokes?

I think some LSE's had the square type 5 spoke wheels, like the CSK (http://www.rangerovercsk.com/gallery.html). The CSK had black egdge on the rim, not sure if a tudor grey would work?

alot of LSE had the 5 spokes and also Disco's ...they are a good strong wheel, been smashing them up for years as normally pick them up for £10-15 a go.

I've got a set of four LSE wheels (the squarer five spoke style) that you can have FOC if you come and get them! They have Black centres - and need to be refurbed to be mint - but have some tyres on and would do for winter I guess??

That's a very kind offer which I would be a fool to not accept. Thank you.

Only possible spanner in the works is where you are based?

This is what is currently on:

I think these are called cyclone wheels. Exactly what my 94 LSE has on it so I suppose no change with the overfinch conversion.

Generous mr dealmaker is in Northumberland. Nice offer, well done that man.

Do you know what profile your tyres are?

I'm assuming that what are fitted to mine are lower than usual, certainly much lower than standard RRC tyres. They must be about 40mm wider than typical RRc tyres as well.

I did like the high profile and narrow nature of the tyres on my Vogue.

Northumberland!!!!!! It's still a great offer but I'm wondering if there is enough petrol in the UK to get the wagon up there. biggrin

There were three sets of wheels for the LSE. The block five spoke as fitted also to the CSK.The cyclones has in the picture above. And the five spoke TWR alloys.

Thanks.

Were they all the same width?

What I'm planning on doing is using the same wheel and tyre that wason my 93/4 vogue which were nice high profile and very skinny. They worked brilliantly in bad conditions.

I am getting the feeling that my current wheels are Land Rover standard for the LSE and I think this makes them too wide.

DonkeyApple,

I have the same wheels as you on my LSE, when I 1st got it they had very skinny (from memory 205's), I now have (again from memory) 255's on them.

205s sounds about right for old school. I suspect 255 isn't far off what I currently have.

I'm just waiting to hear back from the mate who has my old Rangie with the details of what are on them to confirm.

Were you original wheels cyclones or traditional 5 spokes?

Would early Disco wheels fit?

I'm being a bit daft over this but are you saying that on the same wheels you had 205 and since 255s?

I think the two main problems with mine in the snow is that firstly the tyres are designed for the exact opposite conditions, ie cruising at multiple leptons and the sheer torque of the engine makes getting away slowly and smoothly without losing traction difficult.

I can't really fix the latter but a set of suitable tyres for winter use would be prudent.

yup I had 205's (possibly even 195's) and I now have (I think 255's), if not certainly 235's. I will check when back home.

Yep i'm sure the power in yours makes smooth progress in poor conditions tricky. I would however, love a ride sometime.

No probs. I'm sure it'll be at some PH meet at some point, maybe Ace.

The tyes that were on my old Rangie and worked brilliantly were Michelin 4x4 Synchrone 205/80r 16

I can't recall if the wheels were 3 or 5 spoke. I have a feeling 3 or I would have recalled them being different from the original Vogue wheels.

So are we saying that 205/80 will fit on the LSE cyclone wheels?
