2006 Discovery 3 - "Special Programs" selection issue

Hi,

Any advice on this much appreciated. Friend with a Discovery 3 has noticed an issue with his car when trying to select the "Special Programs" for the transmission using the rotary selector on the centre console.

When rotating the selector wheel, the dashboard display remains unchanged. Only the left-most icon on the outside of the selector remains illuminated too - the other icons don't illuminate while the selector is being turned.

Has anyone encountered this before? What was the cause? Was it a costly fix?
