Any Disco 3 owners got any thoughts to share. My wife has had a FL TD4 Sport since new and we're toying with the idea of changing it for a Disco 3.

Why...thinking of getting a bigger caravan so would need the extra weight/power, and we live at the bottom of a steep hill in an area which gets more than its fair share of snow - and the Freelander tends to struggle from a standing start in deep snow at the bottom of the hill.

Not gone further than internet browsing, so have a few questions:

Is the 4x4 system superior to the FL? Can you select drive in all 4 wheels? The FL uses a viscous coupling and relies on the fronts really struggling before the rears start to help.

I've heard stories of unreliability (Freelander has been faultless in 6 years), and would anyone care to share some real world mpg?

Cheers
Andy

We had a D3 for just under 4 years and 42k miles, it was faultless. A number of friends own D3/4's, FL's and RR and none have reported anything other than the odd niggle which was easily dealt with. 2 of us have changed from a D3 to a D4.

Yes, the FL is really a fwd car. The D3 has the proper terrain response AWD. You can buy it with a locking rear diff, but is a factory fit option. You'll need some decent tyres if it's that slick. The early ones tended to have niggles, but mine was faultless.
