I have just had 2 new front tyres put on my RangeRover Sport TDV8 but the garage will not do the tracking. They are saying it has to go to LandRover. Is this true? Surely there must be local tyre companies that can do this. I am in Epsom, Surrey. Your help please, cheers

That's bks!

Most tyre places should be able to do the tracking, I'd recommend to get all four wheels aligned at the same time.
A local place, to me, charges £50 for 4 wheel alignment.
The local LR Dealership use them for alignment also, so kind of contradicts the message you were given.

Seems to recall LR put the suspension into "maintenance mode" before they set the tracking on the RRS. its some specific ride height where the geo settings they specify are supposed to occur.
Plus they should also adjust the Camber as thats what usually does the rears in (inside edge ) and fronts outside edge.

Anybody can do the tracking\geo setup but unless the suspension is locked in maintenance mode then you are wasting your money

Any dealer or landie specialist will be able to do this before you get the geometry setup done then you need to get it unlocked after afterwards

So the guy who put your tyres on was actually 100% correct

Or have a tyre specialist who can do it?
My tyre guy luckily has nothing to do with LR.

Well yes, but if the suspension bushes aren't loaded correctly, ride height correct, it's a complete waste of time.

Wheel Wobble Gone!!
So do you mean tracking? or Wheel balancing?

My tracking was done at the same time by my tyre fitter, at the same time they balanced all four wheels.
They are a 4x4 specialist.
My wildest guess is that they have the correct equipment to do the job.
Maybe you were there so you would know better than me?

Well as I said in the second post, my supplying LR Dealer uses an Indy for 4 wheel alignmnent and the LR Dealer recommended them to me, as they said they would only take it to them anyway.

So as Jem said, as long as they know what they're doing and have the right equipment anyone can do it.

The RRS is adjustable for camber, toe, thrust (think these terms are correct, but sure someone will correct me). So it's worth getting all 4 wheels aligned at once, as the potholes emerging from under the ice will knock the setup out quite quickly.

I too suffered from the inner rears and the front outers wearing prematurely, mine is on Contis which have known wear issues on the outer edges. Check on www.RRSport.co.uk, a few threads on there regarding tyre wear, performance and alignment.

Who knows? What I do know, is that your original post was quite wrong and miss-informed.

Except, Jem actually said "Horses Arse.

Which is not the case at all.
Yawn!

I was referring to his post at 11.05.

But as you know best, the OP should to take his RRS to a LR Dealer to have his arse smacked, whilst they drop it into an Indy to get the alignment done!!!

Next you'll be telling me that Main Dealers are the best place buy tyres from..

Just an update but eventually as a last resort i have taken the car to a LandRover main dealer as it still does not feel right (and trust me i did not want too!!) It has been to two independant garages who said they could do the job (none mentioned in the post)but well known.

The car has now come back from Landrover and drives as it should do. The camber, etc, were all wrong.

Whilst my last resort is to pay main dealer prices, i have to say they are the only people this time around that have performed. The moment the car was driven off the forecourt you could feel the difference.

I dont work for Landrover, honest!!!
