Black Ice 1 Defender 0
Discussion
Woe, woe, woe, *sob* damn and blast.
Driving home from station last night. Hit black ice on lane near home.
Lost control, ended up on my side in a ditch.
To be fair, the snorkel and safari bars took the strain. Not a broken window. Amazingly lucky.
I clambered up out of the passenger side. Not a scratch.
Gutted, properly gutted. Was my pride and joy. DAMN, damn and poo and sh*t.
Will let you know how my insurance claim goes.
(have chatted to briefly to mechanic who recovered it (whom I know well) and he feels it might not be saveable).

I wouldn't even bother the insurance company with that.
New door, new door handle, new wing, beat out any remaining dents and paint over the scuffs.
Unless there's something seriously bent with the bulkhead or steering/suspension, or something important sheared off the engine under impact (which I doubt very much as the collateral to the body would be far greater if it had been that magnitude of thump) that can be fixed for well under a grand, possible less than £500.
Any insurance repair will assume a like new repair which means getting it back to showroom condition which it so doesn't need.

That's what I call a pretty land rover. Metallic paint, nice alloys, some bolt on goodies, it has a scar or two now so it's become a proper defender.
Mine is as rugged as hell, dents where I've climbed on to the wings to strap loads down, boarded out roof rack with plywood which is going a bit rotten but it works a charm and has bags of character.
From looking at the photo that is miles away from being a write off, it would need a substantial impact to wreck the chassis - at least to the point where it cant be repaired, what you see there is cosmetic in LR terms. Even if the bulkhead has deformed (along the door hinge section) do not let them BS you that this is worth writing it off, you can buy repair sections and have them welded in and sprayed relatively cheaply, I should know mine has had them in the past and is probably due for them to be replaced again in the next couple of years.

Thats a puma so its a 2007 at latest. No way is that a write off. Mechanic is talking out his arse,
New door, new front wing, pop out the dent on the rear tub. Bulkhead may need changed to sort the door hinge and wondow area.
Easy job for a specialist. Remove the bonnet and front wings, unblot the roof and remove, remove doors and remove all the dash and wiring etc. Swap over for galvanised as the standards can rust at the bottoms.
Job, jobbed.
ETA, you have a Je engineering sticker by the looks of it on the wing. Send the picture to them and they will be able to tell you how much to fix.

It's still a fairly new vehicle(can tell by bonnet hump)so probably wants repairing properly.
Why? It's got to get dirty at some point.I bet you put covers on new sofas.
