Damaged my 97 defender. Drivers door, windscreen frame, pick up tailgate, front nearside wing. Does anyone know where I can get these parts from .. LR breakers etc? and is this the best route? or new?

Everybody in the world wants 2nd hand defender doors.

Try

If there is such a demand for the doors why are there not more sold as spares from the factory?

They are but they are fooking expensive.

Ashtree make galvanised door frames and skins, dear again.

Central precision make brand new pressed steel door frames and skins, still dear.

I've often thought it would be possible for a company to make money by making and selling complete galvanised doors from scratch.

Equicar recently sold a set of 4x good complete doors from a 2003 110SW (so 7 years old!) for £1400 + vat. That's the cheapest way to get complete doors.

Is this the only anomaly? Everything else is cheap to repair or replace apart from doors which costs more than a complete landrover. Strange.

Doors are expensive because, as somebody already said, everybody wants them. Basic supply/demand economics I'm afraid and some rather silly design ideas that involve bi-metal corrosion. rolleyes

Watch out with ex-mil landies because parts for the 24V FFR models can be dear. Many get converted back to 12v.

Can't think off the top oif my head of other unusually expensive bits... Most parts can always be got from scrappies but doors at scrappies are either:

A: Sold for mega £££ if decent
B: fked and still £100 each.

My landy has an SW body from a very early model 110 (a-reg, what's that, 1983?) despite being registered as 1986 D-reg. The floor of the rear tub is rusty and the doors aren't great.

I saw an early 90's 110 tdi SW for sale recently with 6 months MOT, a bit of chassis rust, a bit of bulkhead rust and a smoky engine at £3k. It had 5 new doors and I contemplated buying it for the smooth roof, doors, rear tub and decent interior trim but by the time I got round to deciding it was gone.

I figured that even if I put the roof, tub and and doors from my 110 on the chassis of the tdi 110 I could still sell it for 2k and have saved a bundle of cash on upgrading mine.
