pre2005 ish you are in M62 BMW 4.4 290bhp

then in 2005-2006 its 300bhp Jag 4.2 or 400bhp Supercharged

the price difference on used cars between the BMW engined 4.4 and the extra 10bhp 2005 cars is quite big

in the later 2005 cars you also got the new electronics also

I picked up a 2004 V8 with 50K on the clock a few months back for £15K, a similar 2005 revised car was about £22-25K ...big difference for 10bhp and improved gizmos IMO

if I had £25K to spend though, Id have no hesitation in getting a 400bhp supercharged FFRR smile

theres a good model guide on www.rangerovers.net and friendly community at www.fullfatrr.com

/in a few years I will upgrade to the supercharged one smile

Got to be the supercharger if you're not concerned about fuel economy. Also the specification on the s/c's is usually pretty fantastic, I think you'll probably find most have RSE (rear seat entertainment), as well as all the other goodies. Be a sublime drive as well.

spoken to a RR dealer this morning about 'older' cars

should be able to buy a good 2005 facelift for about £12/13K privately with service history

thats brilliant news

he's keeping an 'eye' out for a car that comes in as px - just to 'pass on' as they would only trade this age of RR

keep an eye out/introduce yourself on fullfatrr as well as not only is the technical knowledge superb but the guys always know a few going around for sale and what not to go for.

As an S/C owner I'd heartily recommend it as along as fuel consumption isn't an issue.

Spec is brilliant with cabin pre-heater, rear screens with 6DVD player and DVB-T freeview, venturecam, heated and cooled seats front and rear, bluetooth phone integration, heated and light sensitive mirrors, heated steering wheel, adaptive headlamps, rear view camera and loads, loads more before you even being to start thinking about the hill descent and terrain response 4x4 stuff it's known for smile

p.s above is what I have on my 2007 one so a very early one might be slightly different.

BTW 2005/6 was a "hotch potch" from what I gather with cars varying on their level of "facelift" items.

The full facelift with the more desirable interior mods, touch screen system etc., was MY2007.

thanks guys

i want a 'basic' vehicle because it will be off roaded!

so i want 19" wheels - what i don't want to pay for are expensive 'toys' like rear camera/rear dvd (or any to be honest), big and silly wheels tyres, upgraded cd system, cooled seats, twin xenon lights etc etc etc

spare cash will be spent on suspension upgrades/new exhaust/superchip etc

sorry if that comment offends about 'toys' - but each to their own - i 've had RR's in the past (those first ones with the dreaded air suspension!!) - but its going to be a workhorse as well as a luxury on roader!

ringing around a few other 'main dealers' (stealers?)

what a load of junk i've been told - about selling only to the 'trade'

the one with a 'fishy' name was the worst - i forgot to mention my friend buys all their merecedes trade ins!!!

IMO.. A Good facelift will be more like 19k.

I've looked at at least 15 before i got mine. I did see some closer to 15k, but they were that price for a reason.

It is theoretically lower spec than a Vogue but the spec on an HSE can vary hugely. You could specify more or less every extra which was available on the Vogue. Otherwise, the HSE front seats are a slightly different spec but that's about it.

Edit: Posting from an iPhone so got it right on the second go.

Hey mate. It is the spec below the Vogue.

I.e. if you dont care about the toys etc.

These are significantly cheaper as most want Vogue.

range rover 'trade' begs to differs

just depends on where you buy?

and the main dealers said they have a major problem with 'owners' overvaluing their vehicles - it may have cost £70K - but that has nothing to do with the price of milk!!!

2005 at this price will only be good for off road! So you will be alright.

I feel your trader might be talking what he pays for an auction sourced car?
I haven't anything close to that year/price.
It's is not uncommon for me to be wrong.
Let us know what you get?

now you are quite wrong to say such a thing as its totally untrue

i've now seen a list of prices paid by a main dealer for trade in's of this age - some cracking cars with full history otherwise the dealer would not touch them

to the main dealer these cars are a pain - they either have to be put through the auctions or moved within the trade

apparently many 'owners' do not quite simply want to waste time or have their privacy compromised selling a car - so they are quite happy to accept the 'trade in' price regardless

sometimes the cars have a slight 'ding' on a wing etc or a supermarket scratch - but im lucky as less than 5 miles from home i have a superb body shop who does everything from RR to Ka's at a fraction of the main dealer prices! - and there are plenty of scrap yards specialising in FFRR panels etc
