Feint glimmer of hope re the London Emission Zone
Discussion
Had a reply from TFL regarding classification of Series/Defenders for the Low Emission Zone.
Previously, those in van-spec were in line for the £100-a-day tax, regardless of how they were registered or used where as County spec vehicles on the same basic vehicle weren't due for charge.
Now under review apparently, and the wording goes "Your vehicle may now not be included".
Hurrah.

No. The extension comes into force as fro january next year. Your landrover entering the zone really depends on how its classed on the V5. "utility" is non exempt. Estate or station wagon is exempt from the charge. I know many LR owners already who have sold up after having lenthy conversations with people from TFL and The DVLA to have their classification changed to no avail.
Well.......my 02 TD5 is a utility 4x4 on the V5,but IS exempt from the upcoming charge. This is what is SO frustrating about this charge, differing views/comments re:what the V5 says as to being exempt or not.Surely should be based on emissions as the name says regardless of whats on the V5? I was told by TFL that my vehicle is compliant because it meets Euro 111 emissions despite the V5 classification.(and yes,i have run my reg through there checker to confirm same)
Whole thing is a total balls up really.

Yes.But you have a newer TD5.The older 200tdi-300tdi wont comply unless whats stated on the V5.In time your TD5 wont be exempt as they are pushing for euro 4.Unless you fit the required abatement filters.Even then its a bit hit and miss if you can get the emissions down to there required acceptable levels.Whole thing is a total balls up really.
The whole thing is a f
k up.And to be honest even the peole i spoke to at TFL didn't seem to have a clue as to what was going on.bigee said:

It isn't really. Your truck is simply new enough not to be affected.Whole thing is a total balls up really.
The LEZ classifications are aimed at ridding the Capital of commercial vehicles with heavy emissions. This has been done based on a combination kerb weight, the V5 classification, and the age of the vehicle.
(Older) Land Rover Defenders and Series fall between the cracks since alot of van bodied LRs are privately owned but TFL are taking the cheapest, easiest, zero-thought option of assuming all and any vans are operated commercially.
The tone of the reply I got is radically different from the semi-automated "read our website" replies that other Land Rover mates have had, so maybe the trickle of enquires has turned in to a flood?

That wouldn't surprise me.As to up until a couple of months ago.Quite a few were still unaware of the new regulations coming into force. The LEZ classifications are aimed at ridding the Capital of commercial vehicles with heavy emissions. Fair points, but i still think its a total mess of a system,i mean to not have a definitive answer/spec/age/classification/whatever is a joke.As you say mine is currently ok,happy days, but what if they change it again as indicated? No problem really i will just spend a few grand adapting it or upgrade to a new model.............yeah right!
