Hi all, a quick question for you all. A good friend well into his 70's has just accepted a trade in price for his '96 disco tdi es. It is in lovely nick, just done 90k miles, has lots of options inc. detachable front tow bar for all those caravanners, boating types. Not only that but it has full annual service history at the supplying main dealer since day one.

What has this same main dealer given him as part ex against a new freelander?

1k gbp.

Sounds a little light, what do you guys think?

At the end of the day, it's a 15 year old car, with "high" miles. Mint or not, the market for it will be tiny.

Shame you are not a bit nearer to the Northamptonshire area - I would have given him better than that for it!!

I sort of knew this already.

And it isn't really that important, as I don't want to get involved with it all, and he has not asked me to. It just doesn't seem right when you look through autotrader and he has looked after it so well over all these years.

Sounds like a fair offer for an old Disco to me.

I think that's quite a reasonable offer. Yes it may be worth more on a private sale but private sales don't have the same overheads as a MD.

Considering early Disco dogs are now popping up in the 'bay from around £500, a grand for a decent one sounds about right.

I know someone who was offered £3995 on a 50th Anniversary Disco with very low mileage [7,000] in showroom condition against a new Sport ... in years to come the Tdi Disco will be remembered as one of the best Land Rovers ever built, [besides the rust] but at the moment they are in the 'throw away' category.

Let him take the £1k ...somebody will make £500 on a re-sale and someone will get a cheap good car.

That's rubbish. I just PX'd my 52 plate V8 petrol Discovery 'Metropolis' with full SH for £5k. My car is also in good condition but has done 150k miles. LR offered me £3k for it as a PX on a RRSport TDV8..

hope this helps..
