I have looked at the very one several times.

But Nene have had it for sales for years, they cant seem to shift it, but not surprising with that £23K Sale Price!!

They have even hauled it out to several LRO Shows at Billing, lots of people look at it but then see the price and walk away.

Also they will not budge on the price, so they must have given big money for it, and dont want to lose out on it would be my guess!!

I love the idea of a mad-power 90 v8 but I prefer the rat look in Defenders to be honest...

I've only ever heard bad news about Nene.

It's ok. Reckon you could build better and faster for nearer half the money though.

I was thinking that. Saw a 4.5 Chim motor, allegedly making 285bhp go on ebay for £3000. Decent-ish 90 for £5k. £15k could build a very nice, quick Defender.

I haven't been impressed with the quality of their vehicle prep. A couple of years back a mate of mine spent a not unreasonable amount on a Tdi 90 which looked pretty but had been blown over and was obviously fairly crunchy underneath the filler.

This doesn't inspire much confidence.

I checked this out earlier today following some of the comments above (thanks for them by the way) together with a site 'Defender2' that had some rather non-complimentary observations, shame really but I liked the comment above regarding building a V8 Defender - just need to find somewhere that could do it! Any ideas guys?
Cheers

Anyone who works on them tbh. They are all nuts and bolts and simple to work on. Might be worth asking at your local off road or Land Rover Club, chances are one of the members would be able to do it and likely only charge £25-35/hour labour.

You could do an engine swap in a couple of days easy.

not sure about that one in particular, but as others have said, you can get one for a lot cheaper. Depends on what look you're after and if you like the idea of doing one up as a project. I bought a 20 yr old diesel Defender cab, and then had it fully refurbed (new chassis, engine swap etc) and transformed into an offroad monster for a lot less money. It's awesome in the mud, but will also get a lot of looks in the sun soon. Mine took just under 3 months to do. PM me if you'd like any help or people to talk to.

That is fan fooking tastic!! Good work fella.

I totally agreed about having one built, rather than spending £20k+ on the Neane example.

I’d have loved to do that to my old (much missed) V8 90.

I was really tempted to go for a 40th Anniversay V8 from Nene but in the end we got "sensible" and opted for a 57 reg "Puma" 110XS. Nowhere near as nice sounding but more torque and better (not much though!) MPG.

I just don't think Defenders are made to go fast - I even manage to get mine out of shape quite often with a comedy 122bhp/266lbs-ft!

Would love to know more about your 90. It looks fab. What's it running?

If that is the case then you need to talk to a chap about some custom-valved Fox dampers, these are available off-the-shelf for the Defender...PM if you want to know more!

The standard factory set-up on the 50th anniversay was quite impressive.I used to sling mine into bends that would have had my P38 and the L322 on its door handles. That was a great Landrover.

hi, well it started as a std 20 yr old 200 Tdi cab and after a few lots of mods:

Richards chassis with heady duty rear cross member
engine swapped for 3.9 Rover V8
ARB diff lockers
Ashcroft HD halfshafts
Salisbury front and rear axles
Scorpion extreme suspension kit (+3")
Roll cage & sliders, various underbody protection
full respray
snorkel, waterproofing and breather kits
NAS light kits, spots, bonnet light pod and roof lights
extreme offroad winch bumper
WARN winches and rear, wired internally and externally
new POD dashboard to house the variety of switches for diff lockers, lights, winches etc
window tint
LR 16" mod rims with 37" Creepy crawler tyres

now looks like:

and yes - it WILL be doing a LOT of off-roading!! Thing is though, it's very high and you need a step ladder to get in eek

You SO know you want one phib! My cab is a 1992 J reg and was red too so it shows what you can do to them. Sell your 355 to the OP on the other thread and put 10k of the proceeds towards converting P286 JSW to your own monster truck hehe

Will leave it for now but sounds interesting...!

The BM luckily works pretty well as my fun and nippy car (335d) so I tend to get my speed fix from that.

That orange 90 is amazing!!!
