Land Rover Voiding Warranty for a set of alloy wheels????
Discussion
Afternoon all.
You've been very wise regarding my recent posts about Range Rovers, so I thought I'd drop in again to ask about something my Dad was told yesterday.
He went to drop off his car at the dealer and started talking about nearly new cars, mentioning he wanted to swop his Overfinch wheels onto whatever RR he buys next.
Dad was then told by the salesman that he couldn't do that because, as of last month, Overfinch wheels void the entire Land Rover warranty
Can this really be correct?! A set of wheels voiding an entire warranty on a car? I could understand if it voided the warranty on wheels, tyres and maybe suspension component
Many thanks in advance,
Darren

Overfinch items are "approved" acsessories but if the new car that you are swapping the wheels on to has TPMS (Tyre pressure monitoring system) you will have a permenant fault message and warning lamp.
The standard wheels have sensors attached to the valve in the inside of the rim under the tyre
I cant see it voiding the whole warranty but you ceartinaly wont get far when trying to claim for any dash warnings under warranty

In terms of voiding the warranty, they can try it, but it's more than slightly ridiculous.
If a salesman told me that, I'd walk away instantly, and find a decent dealer.
Clearly manufacturers can reject warranty claims, where non standard parts have led to a fault occurring. However if they were to reject say a claim on an engine component because of non approved wheels, I think they'd potentially be open to legal challenges.
There are lots of myths about 'voiding warranties', but in my view they are bs. Is this pratt of a salesman suggesting that if you fit a set of OF wheels for a month, then your warranty is void? If not, then maybe what he means is that if you have non approved fitments at the time of claim, it may be rejected, which is very different.
But it's just plan stupid, a salesman stating that the manufacturer will shaft you on the warranty just because you fit some wheels which they would happily have sold you a few months ago.

Why is it stupid? For all we know there's been a serious falling out between LR and Overfinch (with or without them going under) or Land Rover may have got stung for a claim which was caused by duff wheels, however unlikely that may seem to us experts.
Try asking the dealer why they've taken this line.

Hmm that's a bit rich seeing as they supply Defenders with alloys that appear to be made of porous cheese. My Boost alloys (57 reg Defender 110XS) are not even lacquered - just painted with what appears to be emulsion so they get grimey very easily and it's a b
