I have a 93 Classic Range Rover 3.9 and am thinking of having an LPG conversion, anyone care to share their findings on this subject, costs, safety, value v devalue when selling etc
thanks
Cost can be quite a lot, so shop about. Make sure you know what you are getting too. A multipoint LPG system will cost more, but it'll run better, be faster and more economical.thanks
Safety, don't see why it should be any different to running on petrol.
Shouldn't affect value IMO, some would pay more for it, while others would want to pay less as it's modified and if on LPG might just have been used as a hack. However you could always remove the LPG kit and sell it separately or use it on another vehicle.
I have a 1986 3.5 EFi on LPG, single point using a BLOS LPG carburettor - much better than the normal gas ring usually found on single point systems & which I had initially.
Have been on LPG for over 10 years & - to date - no problems. Undersill tanks & retain the original petrol tank.
Gives a COST EQUIVALENT of around 25 mpg. (2 gallons LPG for the price of 1 gallon of petrol)
One downside is that you can't use the Channel Tunnel with an LPG car.
You might want to have a good look through the LPG forum on a Land Rover website - such as http://www.lro.com/forum3/

Generally the cost is the issue.
I have a 94 LSE running a single point system. Its done nearly 100K on gas and is fine. I have 80 litres of tank and can squeeze 60 in on a cold day and closer to 50 if its really warm. I then get about 200 miles range bearing in mind a few miles are on petrol.
I recon thats towards high 20s mpg equivalent.
It seems that converted cars are no more expensive than non converted and there's the rub. If a reasonable car costs 2K the conversion can easily be that so you either have to be planning a,ot of miles or it might be cheaper to sell and buy a converted one.
I'd struggle to justify the 15mpg on petrol but am quite happy on gas thanks.
