What does a Subway franchise cost/make profit?
Discussion
I've been thinking lately that I'd like to run my own business. But would like the backup and business model that someone else has done the hard bit.
My town is quite big/busy and has loads of takeaways but no Subway. I live Subway.
I think a subway would prosper and do very well and have considered opening one but have absolutely no idea what it costs and whether (financially) it would be worthwhile?
I was a site manager for a Burger King for a good few years so have a lot of the training needed.

Maybe better stick this in the Business Forum? Sure you'll get some good feedback in there.

£10k for the franchise plus all the associated costs with getting the shop up to spec. Roughly £100kish.
Pretty much a guaranteed money maker if you're the only Subway in town. But you will need to check as someone may already have bought the franchise rights for your town and just be waiting for the right property to spring up.

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as "franchise rights for your town". I looked into subway a few years ago and one of the things that put me off (apart from proicessed meat - yuk) was the proliferation of branches. I think it's one of those deals that if you got in early, say 10 years ago, you could do well. Now it's saturated. There is a PHer who has or had 5 or 6 around Harrogate who drove a Murcielago.£10k for the franchise plus all the associated costs with getting the shop up to spec. Roughly £100kish.

Works for a car mag don't they?There's at least 3 in Slough!
So I doubt that Subway themselves with have an issue with potentailly making more from multiple sites/town, but could a council? Tesco seem to be able to open an express shop but everyone knows that it's not deemed fair to take away the publics choice.
Not that this will affect the OP if there are no Subways at the moment, i'm just curious if the same rules apply to fast food restaurants as they are supposed to to supermarkets?

The main problem here being that I don't have 100k+ around, or 50% of that, or 10% even.
Ah well.
Any franchise is going to cost money Dog. Foodie ones cost more than some others because you need premises. There are a lot of good franchises that are vehicle based that are less expensive in terms of start up capital. IIRC there was a company that had a cornish pastie from a van franchise and the vans were decked out like surfers wagons. Perfect for you in Cornwall.Ah well.
Loads of ideas here;
