Where to advertise?
Discussion
we are about to finish building our first cottage for summer rental which has a large fully equipped gym, not a running machine and treadmill in the basement like many hotels seem to think constitutes a gym
need to do a bit of target advertising and seeing is we dont get any english magazines any more (we're in France) I was wondering if anyone on here might have some pointers on magazines, web sites etc that are likely to have an audience interested in a french holiday with said facilities?
any suggestions?

Out of interest, what prompted the inclusion of a gym in a summer let?
Chap sits next to me at work... my team lawyer... goes to the gym every day. Often goes to France for his holidays too. And likes nothing more than getting outside and going running, 8-12 miles each morning, to take in that French... 'I don't know what'.
He says he has no interest in gym exercise when he's on holiday.
Maybe he's the oddball? Just curious as to what drivers you responded to in building the gym.

the gym was built primarily for us
its just an added, OOooo! for the odd rainy days really, not a draw on its own but a bonus if you like.
lots more 'gym goers' these days, Franc does not cater for them really, even nice hotels away from the big cities rarely have a gym. even their specialised gyms in the cities aren't that good tbh.
so not built for guests, just that they get to use our gym
but it does mean we can do some targeted advertising and pick up the odd one or two booking that we probably wouldn't have got otherwise.
Just a case of where to advertise really.

Listing the gym gives great added value. If I were looking to rent a house in France and one had a gym and the other didn't, at the same price, I would book the one with the gym. Hotels in the UK have been doing this for years with swimming pools. Only a very small percentage of hotel guests actually use the pool but the reason they choose to book it over a competitor was due to the pool being listed.
As for the original question as to where to advertise, we tend to use rental brokers on the net but I am sure others will share their experience.

we've got the normal bases covered with regard to advertising, web based holiday rentals mainly & a couple of freebies.
it was just some specific places, maybe search out some fitness forums and go in in on that tack, wouldn't pay to go glossy mags etc, even if it converted to booking we wouldn't be able to cope as we only have one of the gites ready at the mo.
nice to know some of you think its a good idea though

I think this is your best option. Although obviously you'll want to seemlessly blend in on those forums and make useful contributions in addition to your adverts, rather than just spamming the forums with blatant plugs and annoying the moderators. You could advertise in the classified ads section of (say) Runners World or similar, but I imagine it would be expensive.
If you're looking for a holiday property rental website with a specific focus on gyms, I don't think anything like that exists (yet). At best, you might find some websites list "gym" as a search option, in the same way you can search for a villa with a pool, or one with air conditioning.
Maybe you could set up "www.villaswithtopspecgyms.com" or "www.Ispendmyholidayonatreadmillinabasement.com" if you think there's a market for it...
