Trade Waste Tipping

Can anyone help?
I need to know a way of tipping old waste/furniture I collect during house clearances. The items are normally old furniture, cookers, garden furniture etc.
I'm based near to Runcorn. So far I have found places that will charge me for a van load but this is none negotiable when it comes to a chest of drawers or single items.
So I need a cheap flexible suggestion if there is one. Thanks.

Charity shop?

There are some companies which specifically trade in recycled furniture (not sure in your area)

Freecycle & EBay. I got rid off all my excess furniture through both of them.

^Also Charity Shops as mentioned above, but they were very picky about what they would accept.

Set up a junk shop business to handle all the gear that isn't good enough to send to auction

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't have the b@lls to give some of it to the charity shop!
I need it gone out of the van the same day really so waiting for it to be collected is not really an option.
I have tried the fleabay route but people bid pennies and then take ages to collect because most don't have access to vans etc.

What I need is a waste transfer station who will charge me per item or per kilo maybe?

I have been struggling to find such a place that will allow 'smaller' operators in.
The other suggestion somebody made was to hire storage unit locally then weigh until you have a full van full and go to a 'pay per van' recycling centre. This seems a good idea, even taking into account £15 per week storage charge.

That sounds like a good idea to me too. Especially if its so cheap to store.

Wearing my cynic hat: -

Set up a company and use it to rent a very large warehouse that you are going to use for recycling. Fill it to the eaves at which point either the "recycling" catches fire and the insurance company pays for disposal, or place the recycling company into liquidation leaving the problem of disposal to the landlord. Repeat as necessary!

A bit of a trip from Runcorn perhaps but Martland Skips in Burscough have a waste transfer station that might do what you want, used them for skips umpteen times.

I would have to say that my local general auction sells loads of this stuff here is West Wales. Maybe our buyers aren't as discerning as those in Runcorn?

You didn't once run a tyre recycling yard in North Yorkshire, did you?

OP, what you need is a shed. I don't mean a tatty car. I mean a wooden outbuilding in which you can store the junk until you have a vanful to tip.

Also, anything metal should be easy to get shot of. Even if it's just odds and sods that aren't worth your while taking to weigh in at the scrappy, surely there must be some scruffy chaps in old Transit pickups who can take it away...

Whilst this is a good idea in principle,in practice what you would effectively be doing is operating your own waste transfer station.The environmenatal agency are certainly actively looking at this sort of operation and clamping down on it.
We operate a waste transfer station and currently charge £109.00 per tonne with a minimum charge of £50.00.

The type of furniture we come across is mostly unusable - at best.

that price would be for mixed waste,extra charges apply for any electricals,tyres or asbestos.
