I recently bought a large box of greetings cards from an auction, dirt cheap.. All nice, clean quality stock etc, but only about 20% of them have envelopes with them!

I've sorted them out into the various sizes that you tend to get, thinking that it would be worth the effort buying some envelopes to match up with the orphan cards that I have, so I could sell them on. However I was surprised at the relative lack of range of sizes available from the envelope companies. My list of required measurements for what I have, amount to about 8 sizes, but I can only find 2 available that would work (known as C5 and i9)

Would any one have any inside info as to where the envelopes that would have been with my rogue cards might have come from? (I suspect the answer is 'The Far East, purchased in large bulk quantities')

If only there was a market for envelope-less cards, I'd be quids-in! biggrin

As you say, the likelihood is that they were produced in bulk in the far east.

Enveco, Regent and Yorkshire Envelopes are probably the main greetings card envelope suppliers in the UK, but they are unlikely to be very interested in supplying you with small quantities. Best you can probably hope for is to work out the nearest available standard ) size and order some off eBay or perhaps from somebody like Pitshanger, who I believe sell in small quantities, but not cheaply.

Buy greeting card trade magazine (really!). Call all the specialist envelope makers and see if they have surplus.

Thanks for the replies. I'd looked at all those companies and it seems like World of Envelopes might be favourite. I bought a large box of nearly 700 decent quality assorted cards (£2-£3.50 each retail) for £9, but found it a bit of a bummer that only about 100 had the envies cry. I suppose my best bet is to patch up what I can and try to sell em off to a local card shop for a suitably cheap job lot price and chuck the rest away.
Shame really...

Or just give them to a charity shop? In all honesty, where are you going to sell them?
