I'm having to ask here because the delightful HMRC hotline does'nt put you in a queue anymore... it just cuts you off if they are a bit busy.

I have submitted this quarters return online with an error in it. The website states you have to wait 48 hrs before putting in a new submission.

I've waited, it is now showing in my list of filed returns, I can go into it - but I can only view it. I cannot seem to find a way of deleting or amending.

The phone line just says 'try looking online or call back at another time' - neither of which are really any help.

How big's the adjustment? If it's within the allowed amount, which I can't remember, it might be easier to just adjust next quarter's return.

Its only a few hundred pound - but I'm more concerned about the nature of the error and that it will get flagged up.

In short I stupidly input the same figure in box 4 'VAT in' and box 5 'VAT out' so it completely balanced.

I did the same earlier in the year, just corrected it in the next qtr. Don't know if this is the right or wrong thing to do, my accountant gave me a list of options and this seemed like the easiest.

Correct on next return if the adjustment is under £10,000

Thanks All.

I finally got through yesterday -obviously a bit of a busy time of year.

They werent too fussed, and as above, just said carry it over to the next one but they made a note on my file just in case the odd numbers did set any alarm bells ringing.
