Hello,

Earlier in the year I moved back to my hometown after a year in Hertfordshire to start a business.
The business has now been running for 3 months now (three months today!) and it was always the plan for me to get a job whilst my girlfriend and business partner takes care of the shop.
I used to be an estate agent and I do weekend viewings work at a local agent just to keep my experience relevant and I also have a mechanical engineering degree.

How do I put my own business on a CV without potentially scaring off employers? It has given me some great skills but some employers ay not want someone with other commitments like me.

P.S. I'm in Torbay and willing to go to Exeter if anyone has any vacancies! :P

Why not stay with the business? Can you build it into a decent income or is it a pocket money hobby?

I could do but we aren't currently taking enough to sustain 2 people. We are looking into ways of increasing that which seem like a sure-fire way to increasing our takings to a much more reasonable level.
However, it isn't a 2 person operation at the moment, it can be easily run by 1 person and I thoroughly enjoyed my time as an state agent.

Leave it off? I just tend to put down years on my CV. If they ask you an say you have been helping set up a business.

Then sack one of them wink

But seriously, if you know the estate agent game and can sell houses and say the right bingo words, you should be able to walk straight in I'd say.

Depending upon what role you're aiming for, I'd list it, but highlight the competencies and impact from that business which are applicable to your desired role.

Good luck!
