Simple booking keeping software / app

I wondered if anyone was able to recomend a simple book keeping program or app? I have a residential development business and want to keep track of simple payments coming in and going out, directors loans, VAT etc. Any suggestions would be most welcome, as I really am an accounting dunce!

Are you talking full double entry, ledger control type operations?

The type of business you are talking about does require some specialist accounting.

Xero.

I use Kashflow, but Xero is another similar program.

I tried both, but preferred Kashflow as it suited me and my business better.

Smaller freelance affair Freeagent is had to beat, slightly bigger than most roads lead to Xero.

It's £20/month though, while it looks great something like Quickbooks is like £5/month and only seems to be missing invoicing on it's basic starter pack. I'm just moving to self employed so I'm interested too, and haven't really had to do any of this before so have been weighing up options
