Anyone used it? Good or bad experiences?

I have just used it for the first time. I appreciate it depends upon the individual you hire for the gig rather than Fiverr itself but I've had some poor service in the last couple of days.

I wanted some short articles written and went to 6 or so people offering such services.

2 are still due - fine
1 came back fine, not great but fine
1 came back and said they couldn't do it - no explanation but I guess that's their prerogative
1 waited until after the deadline (their deadline, not set by me) before coming back and saying they couldn't find enough information to write an article (well 500 words). The subject is a famous person well documented so I guess this isn't true.
1 came back with such a poorly written article I had to question whether it had been written in another language and passed through an auto translate service. I had to go through and highlight all the poor grammar, lack of punctuation and sentences that simply didn't make sense for them to modify, I felt like a teacher marking homework. The second version isn't much better.

Now, I know I shouldn't expect much for a fiver but why advertise if you can't do it or have no skills in that area.

Fiverr doesn't help as I cannot leave a review for those that cancelled - meaning they sit there with great ratings but have actually let down at least one customer.

Anywhere else I can get stuff done more reliably?

And just to add - 1 of the ones still due has just been updated as delivered, only it hasn't, it's just a message saying 'will deliver soon'

Why advertise to do something in 12 hours if you simply can't!!

Have used it for a couple of logos and the standards were pretty poor, as expected. Worth trying as an experiment but these people are churning out work and taking maybe 20 mins to do it. It really is a case of buy cheap, pay twice.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say not for a fiver.

I did for two logos and the experience was good but I had a fairly clear idea of what I wanted and I opted to spend more than a fiver(r) in the end to get a better service > http://www.bokoshoko.com/2015/09/thatll-be-fiverr-...

A friend of mine used it for some business logos and he was really happy.

I used it to source some VO artists (once).

Load of st, IMO. The client ultimately agreed and we ended up using a proper pro at the rate the client had moaned about to start with. Waste of time.

Indeed. It pains me that these sort of things exist as I don't want to repeatedly be having to explain to clients why they shouldn't just 'go and get exactly the same thing for a fiver'...Sigh.

What is it you want to have written? There are plenty of experienced writers out there.
We have independent writers do articles/features for us. We pay them £300 for 1000 words plus pictures (if needed) just to give you an idea. They are specialists in our industry sector, so can command better rates than holiday/tech blogs.

Yeah I know - for a fiver what should I expect!

i guess I expected to get articles as people have described - that I could then tweak to suit my use. And I have got 1 like that.

The guy that cancelled surprised me though, saying couldn't find enough info to write a 600 word article. The subject matter was Douglas Bader.

I think you need to have realistic expectations; I used their services on the basis that I did not want to spend £180 on a logo and I had a clear idea of the sort of thing I wanted. I then paid additional money over the £5 to get the kind of service I needed (multiple reviews, more time spent on the mock-ups etc).

It's just a big community, like many of these sites, of people offering their services. There'll be good and bad and there'll almost certainly be more expectation on you, as the customer, to play perhaps more of a role than you may expect if you were contracting a professional agency.

Of course I'm fortunate; my experience was overwhelmingly positive but I did go in with an expectation that I'd be "directing" the effort more than if I'd thrown £180 at one of the big players

Pay peanuts get monkeys!

Put yourself in their shoes - could you really be bothered for £5? I couldn't.

Personally I wouldn't even bother explaining, just walk away - the sort of client that would consider Fivver is not the sort of client I could even be bothered to work with as from past experience they are usually idiots.

There is also the weird dynamic that happens when you work for stupidly low rate / free; in that the client has no respect for your opinions, advice or work.

I have used it. Started a hobby business and wanted a logo and banner for my site. for my fiverr I got a really nice logo and banner, something I could not have done myself. In fact I was amazed at what I got, especially as the person gave me various options for logos and banners. At the time I got quite a few compliments on it and people asking why I would go to such expense in having it all designed.

I've used it a few times for hand written signatures. Very pleased.

I think it's dependent on what you need and whether you think they can provide value. Logos you could pay a fiver and strike it lucky, otherwise you could end up spending hundreds to get where you want and may as well use 99designs or something more bespoke.

I've used PeoplePerHour before when I've needed web copy written etc. Found a good, experienced writer, and was happy to pay the fee - more than £5 obviously, but perhaps try that OP.

It seems that for very simple stuff, someone offshore will do it for £1, and for anything that requires skill or experience you'll get someone in UK. A word of advice though, be clear with your requirements to avoid hassle later.

I have no affiliation to the website.

I have used it for a 'Merry Christmas from XYZ' JPEG to put on website and it looked great.

Also used it for a phone system recording and it was good but not quite the accent I was after so did not use it.

I suppose what's really needed is a more upmarket, quality-orientated site called 'tenner' or something.
