Ok so in the future I plan on launching a new business offering 3D, Virtual Reality, Design, VR Product Experiences etc... (sort of software related)

I cannot find an available or decent .com name for love nor money. Does anyone here specialise in this sort of thing?

Very large beer tokens available to any PH'r than can help with a good name!

Also daft names would be considered but still need to be relevant(ish).

Thanks!

Shouldnt the domain be based around the company name?

My understanding is that Google isn't so keen on the use of keywords in the domain name nowadays. It's seen as spammy.

We will probably name the new company based on the domain name we find.

Actually its not bad at all, thanks!

However ideally it would also need to be available without the "hyphen", I don't want to be mistaken for someone else.

This is not a bad name generator tool:

A *lot* of names are not actually in use, just being held by speculators who will pay the £9 a year to renew but don't really want the name that much - especially when they've already paid x years fees without a sniff of interest.

So a name that isn't available for register may be available for a reasonable price so don't be afraid to send offers out. I've had good luck picking up names for £xxx and £xxxx should see some great names within your reach. You *will* have some idiots ask for silly money but disregard and move on. Check out sedo and the other marketplaces.

Otherwise a few hours playing around with www.domainhole.com/namespinner/ usually brings up something workable for me.

No Google does not see it as spam, all they have done is to remove the advantage exact match domains use to enjoy from their algorithm. They still work very well if not better due to the fact people link to your site using your domain name as anchor text more frequently.

You have to tread carefully. This is what MOZ says about it.

In recent years Google has made several changes that have de-prioritized sites with keyword-rich domains that aren't otherwise high-quality. Having a keyword in your domain can still be beneficial, but it can also lead to closer scrutiny and a possible negative ranking effect from search engines—so tread carefully. For more on this topic, read The Exact Match Domain Playbook: A Guide and Best Practices for EMDs.

GLASSVR.COM *glass indicates looking through at something else. Domain is available through SEDO market.
STARKMATTER.CO.UK *.com is gone. Shame. Depending on no crossover of field, could be used.
LIFEBYPROXY.COM

I see these guys bought up a load of relevant domain names that you can purchase at a premium...

Whatever you do, don't just book the domain and set the company name as that - check trademark databases to see that your clear to use. The UK one is here:

Thats why I also suggested a neutral or daft name, as long as it was catch, ie "moonpig"

I liked the idea of "virtual monkey", with a caricature as our logo, but its gone frown
