Hi guys,

As per the title I'm after some advice on printing or buying labels for a new product. We need good quality glossy labels that feature coloured art work, we only require small quantities of several different labels initially but hope that the range and quantity required will increase in the future. I've looked at the various different options listed below but can't decide on the best compromise between cost (most important at this stage) quality and convenience.

1. Get printed in the UK - I have had quotes which are relatively expensive and require significant MOQ.

2. Outsource to China - I have had cheap quotes but are concerned about quality and communication.

3. Buy a label printer - I have found a label printer which seems suitable for £900 + VAT, we feel this is the best medium term option but are reluctant to spend this much on a label printer for a product we have not previously sold.

4. Use a good quality laser/inkjet printer with gloss paper - We think this is the best short term option for keeping down initial costs and convenience but are concerned about the quality.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could share their previous experience and advise on the best way forward, I'm particularly interested to know what sort of quality I should expect from option 4 and and advice on which printers/label printers I should be looking for?

Thank you smile

Is the artwork the same for all the labels, as in a background with only the words changed? If so then you could use a UK based bulk printer to print the backgrounds and you use a laser to print the words for the various products.

The problem you will have printing with a inkjet printer is the ink isn't waterproof, so you will need to devise a way of ensuring that the ink doesn't get wet when in use.

We've done similar things for pet food and vapour cigarette labels. Drop me an email and I'll get you some prices to print them up on sheets.

Shouldn't cost a fortune.
