If I inform a tenant his rent is going up, giving six weeks notice (two weeks more than the minimum), what is the latest point he can respond?

Say, rental agreement is 18th of each month rolling. I inform rent will be going up via written communication on the 1st of the preceding month...

Assuming they are in a periodical tenancy not an AST, haven't you got to give two rental months to terminate and offer a new contract?

It was a 12 month AST.

Tenant has been in for nearly four years without a rent increase. My understanding is I need to give a minimum of one months notice. I've given six weeks notice. But assuming he doesn't wish to stay on at the new rent level I would expect to receive notice from him one month prior to the point where the new rent level comes into effect?

I'm not terminating or asking him to sign a new contract this is just a 'notice of rent increase' by mutual consent. following the guidelines here:

Yes, it appears one rent month is correct.

My apologies.

Sooooo...

If I have to give one month notice and he has to give one month notice aren't we giving notice on the same day? (obviously not)

Can he just ignore me then give his months notice at the 11th hour??
