Firstly I wasn't sure whether to post this in the Business or Computing section, so mods feel free to move if needs be.

I am currently working on a project to build a bespoke IT system for a factory. One feature needed, is the ability to allow the client to quote delivery charges based on mileage to the customer. We're calling the Google Directions API for this. It's all hunky dory apart from the issue that the Google Directions API doesn't necessarily choose roads that the trucks would travel on. There doesn't seem to be a way to request the API to use "truck routing", "avoid low bridges", or "use main roads only", that sort of thing.

Does anyone know if you can do this with the Google API (either free or business version - their documentation seems to suggest not unless I'm missing something) or if there is another API available which our system can call out to with a start location, end location and vehicle weight and get the route miles?

To be clear - we're not looking for an in cab solution to give directions to the drivers, or a separate stand alone "sat nav" type website or product, we're looking for a programmatic API which we can integrate seamlessly in to the new system.

Any help / recommendations / pointers gratefully received.

ESRI UK have products that will do this in conjunction with the OS Integrated Transport Network (ITN) data.

I'm probably a bit out the loop as I've not done anything with their stuff for a few years now, but they were talking about making this functionality available through their ArcGIS Online platform. It might be available now.
