I get mine from PC Specialist. No problems so far, except one three-day build ended up being four days by accident so they refunded my fast build fee. smile

We always buy from Dell for 2 main reasons:

- drivers always available via the support website
- parts can always be found on ebay if needed once out of warranty

Try Overclockers.co.uk, they offer prebuilt systems by their specialists and offer a lot better value for money than buying direct from large suppliers.

I tend to buy refurbished Dells from the like of ITC sales. Big saving over new, performance more than adequate, OS thrown in and never had any reliability problems.

This - don't underestimate the support cost of odd hardware. Being able to have a standard image that you can slap onto any of the boxes is worth a lot.

I'd check out the dell outlet and the various resellers.

Apple. Sometimes the refurbished store depending on what's available.

Dell, because its simple (lazy option), they all look the same, can buy more of same model in the future, seam to have less problems than HP.

But it would be nice if Dell had a cheap option for a graphics card upgrade on the base model for dual screens.

OR you could give the staff a budget and let them order their own, Im sure most end up ordering a Dell anyway! The more technical will shop around and build something better.

Dell, for many reasons.

The best way is to buy their pre-configured deals online, and not try to customise your own perfect PC spec. The pre-built bundles offer great value, but obviously as soon as you customise at all they need to build yours to order, and you pay full whack.

I get mine from Overclockers as well. I used to buy from Dell. Although there is nothing wrong with them, they are expensive for what they are. The budget solution is Ebay where you can get good spec machines for little money, this is where I get my laptops, for example Lenovo Business laptops, i5 w/SSD, about £150, vs £700 new.

We've been very happy with PC Specialist's desktop machines. Now need to buy some laptops - my gut feel is Lenovo or Dell, but are PC Specialist's any good?

That's where I've always sourced things from. My last job as buyer for a large company as well as my current one as a consultant for a small one, still use them. Be agnostic with brands but focus on the spec and you won't go far wrong.

If you don't have an IT person I'd say go Dell and go with NBD onsite support.

You'll pay a bit more but over the life of the systems it's nothing.

Paying for NBD support (think it's called Pro Support) means you don't get the runaround from the call centre).

Did someone mention Lenovo laptops? Don't do it. In the last 12 months the highest proportion of faulty laptops I have seen have by far and away been Lenovo's, and not just one model either.

I'd avoid like the plague personally.

Another vote for Dell. And I second the advice of buying "the deal" and not fecking with the spec.
