I've resisted offering card payment to my customers so far, but I think the time has come to get one of those machines that hook up to your smartphone. Had an initial scan last night and they all seem to be much of a muchness i.e. 2.75% per transaction, no monthly fee and about £70 for a bluetooth reader.

I know this subject comes up from time to time so are there any clear winners in this area? It will be very low volume as most of my work is invoiced, but I'm looking to change to payment on completion for the very small and one-off jobs.

Thanks

We've used SumUp to take deposits from clients on occasion - 1.95% transaction fee and I think it was £70 for the terminal itself. As you say - they're all much of a muchness!

I've got an iZettle one, think it cost me about £50, works via bluetooth with my phone (or tablet), costs about 2.7% per transaction and takes about 2 days to hit my bank account. Can't complain about it so far.

Have used SumUp as a customer at a remote highland location - worked fine. Had a chat with the business owner and he said it was grand. I believe he got it cheap as he was in quite early.

Thanks all, I have already looked at iZettle and will look at Sumup too.

When I looked into this it seemed that iZettle would hold me responsible for fradulent transactions. Sumup was preferred for this reason but haven't gone forward with anyone yet.

Another vote for sum up here.
I paid £35 for my terminal the phone app allows you to send a simple receipt via email too.
