Bad Review left for me on internet
Discussion
Now then chaps, the situation is that I do not have a website or any sort of feedback portal but I did a search of our company name yesterday and there were 2 reviews through yell, both critical, with the first poster then agreeing with the second one. Both made in early/mid 2015 and they were the only reviews that were ever made. So my business gets a 1/5 star rating as soon as I get googled.
One was a blatant lie that we had given poor advice and tried to falsify statements, utter rubbish
The other referred to me as a 'dodgy asian' who should be out of business
Now I appreciate that reviews must be unbiased but when i asked for these to be taken down as they were clearly lies and were not referring to any specific work I was told no, all I can do is disable reviews so that they can't be seen. Yesterday I referred back to the period in question and we had no clients who had at that time moved away from us.
Is there anything I can do about this, i'm as sure as I can be that it's not a client and the comments are just slagging us off, as opposed to actually referring to something we specifically did.

Can you report the "dodgy asian" on for being a racist comment? That might get it taken down. The other referred to me as a 'dodgy asian' who should be out of business
You may well be "dodgy", but that's not connected to your race

The problem with the internet is its longevity. And, as Michael Mcintyre says in one of his routines, you don't read the 1000 positive comments, you read the negative ones.
So if you cannot get them taken down (some good suggestions above), you MUST reply to them. State your case. Dont be funny or arsey, but put your point across. Plus if the dispute is real, and you offered a resolution, explain this.
We (the public) accept things can and do go wrong. However w don't want to deal with a business who don't act then things do go wrong. So show them your response.

It depends on the nature of your business but I'd say just two reviews across the entire internet, on Yell too, is nothing to worry about. Most people will see two, circa year old (and counting), negative reviews as just someone moaning. If you really were as rubbish as the reviews say, there'd be a lot more of them posted.

Is hardly a racist comment...assuming the chap is Asian.
Any comment relating to race doesn't automatically become racist.

In the review its used as an adjective to describe how dodgy he is. Not only it he dodgy, he's a "dodgy asian".
I'd agree its fairly low level, however given the OP says its lies, then its a simple way to get it taken down which is what he wants.
I've had similar and it was an ex-colleague who had posted the reviews... I simply threatened legal action to the websites in question; set up an email called 'legal@blahblah - and sent an email that there had been turmoil in the company and that the reviews were false. But it wasn't just reviews, it was comments on forums; one forum was owned by a rather large USA based news corp'... some how / some way, I got every single thing taken down but it was a long haul. In your case, for now; bury the false reviews with positive ones. Report the 'asian' aspect as, personally, I do think that it could be seen as racist. You don't see many reviews saying; 'dodgy white guy' or 'dodgy black guy'... so I'd use that angle - I would also then state that you will be pursuing this further as you have very strong reason to believe that the reviews may well be from one and the same person and also a competitor.

Agreed it depends on the context. If i were asked to describe the OP i would possibly say he was Asian (assnuming he is). Its a legitimate use as an adjective to describe the bloke.

I'm afraid I disagree. If the dude is Asian and if he is dodgy then he's a dodgy Asian. There's nothing racist about that at all.In the review its used as an adjective to describe how dodgy he is. Not only it he dodgy, he's a "dodgy asian".

People are far too keen to throw around the racist label left right and centre when in many cases there is absolutely no hatred involved (in the description at least!).
I find it rather tiresome to be honest.

lets be honest here, the comment is distasteful and "asian" does not really have to be used in the review. Would it of just been a "dodgy bloke" if he was white?, of course it would. What the person wrote was not racist in anyway, just distasteful. His/her race, religion, age or sexual preference should have no place in a business review.People are far too keen to throw around the racist label left right and centre when in many cases there is absolutely no hatred involved (in the description at least!).

If the business owner was homosexual would you see him described as a "dodgy gay" instead?

How about 'honest Asian'? Is that racist? If it implies that most other Asians are dodgy, perhaps it is. But then conversely 'dodgy Asian' would imply that most other Asians are honest, so it isn't.
But then racism is about treating one race differently from another, and perhaps they are all dodgy in places.
The more people talk about race and racism, the more fights start. It's so silly.
