I dont remember it being anywhere near this quite last year. Looking at the general traffic on eBay and competitors, it seems to be for everyone...

Anyone else affected

The weekend just gone was awful, bank holidays are generally quiet but this one dropped to new levels of crapness. This week hasnt been much better but hoping its just a blip. Last years figures for May to August were low so hoping its not a repeat

I don't sell on there anymore, but as a buyer I hardly ever look at eBay now - Amazon is my first port of call 95% of the time.

Why?

Edit: I mean the drop in ebay sales (I only use Amazon)

eBay has been getting increasingly buggy for me, that may have something to do with it.

Same for me. It seems much easier to find what I want on Amazon and the payment / delivery is much smoother.

Lots of people are reporting the same (sellers who sell outside of eBay & Amazon), looking at Google SERP's it's not hard to see why. Some people call them Googazon these days!

People are not spending their money.
Calls to our sales lines are down around 25% for April and about 20% in May.
Bank holidays and Fri / Sat are still very busy for us, but the Mon - Thurs have been quiet compared to what its usually like.

I used to buy a lot on eBay, however I signed Upto Amazon prime last month when an offer was on to announce the grand tour name.

Therefore to justify the cost, I'm looking at Amazon first, and eBay 2nd.

I am pretty sure its the poor UX (user / buyer experience) since they allowed Asian sellers to say they are in the UK and to spam the categories.

Its much harder to find kosher stuff on the platform now and buyers give up - if you edit your search to UK only you get thousands of sellers like below who may have stock in the UK but are Chinese or other Asian, they are not doing anything illegal per se BUT they are crowding the market (23000 phone holders from UK based sellers) meaning you guys the genuine Brits are being crowded out.

Since November its virtually an epidemic and whilst it may have taken a while to kick in a lean time accentuates the issue (as in right now) and I dont think many cats will recover for genuine UK sellers until September if at all.

My advice is to share some of the ebay budget with facebook targeted advertising linked to a well developed site that has well defined categories and a decent filter system.

I have been using ebay for 15 years and have over 1000 feedbacks for mostly buying.
In the last 12 months I have probably had 4 or 5 claims via paypal / ebay for goods that don't arrive, problems, not as described etc.
In the 14 years prior to that not a single one.

That said I do think retail is quiet on the whole.

To be frank the same can be said for genuine specialist websites, eBay copiers killed them (or was killing them, we seem to be doing Ok again at the moment as people realise eBay is full of st).

eBay seems to have become alibaba...

To be honest I think eBay need new management, I really see no real direction in what they are doing or want to be doing besides copying amazon and poorly at that.

We sell on Ebay and Amazon but we really have stopped bothering on eBay, we keep it for the sake of keeping as we of course make money on it but we make twice as much on amazon with half the effort.

eBay really need to pull their finger out as it will get to a point where people will just not find it worthwhile selling on eBay.

I sell on both as a spreading the risk factor mainly. More of a just in case.

Sales are always going to be weaker at the start of summer, unless you're selling shorts, sunglasses or suncream. It's only just got warm and people are rushing to buy summer stuff, and keeping hold of money for holidays/doing things over the summer.

Sales this year are well down on previous, summer has nothing to do with it (online since 2002).

I now only bother with eBay if I don't mind waiting 6 weeks to get an item and the saving is worth the wait.

Not all eBay sellers are like that, I ordered some brake calliper clips yesterday & they are in my hand today. Free postage too smile One thing that annoys about eBay these days is the page load times, seems the adverts sloooowww everything down. Pure greed on eBay's part IMO.

Ive been on ebay for 15 years, last 3 doing it properly with a business and shop etc, Ive often thought of moving to Amazon but always seems a proper ballache (for sellers). Dont think i could manage to look after both, few posts above mention selling on both platforms, is it easy to run the 2 together ?
