I order lots of stuff online for delivery. (Say 5 deliveries a week).

However im never at home to accept delivery, as im working!

Now my preference would be to collect from their depot, which are usually open late.

However couriers seem to be getting lazy, and deliver to my neighbours which i hate as its not fair on my neighbours to be constantly interrupted, as well they are not my bloody reception desk!

Or even worse parcel force who leaves it at the bloody post office! Who shut at bloody 5:30, so have to complain constantly to the depot to collect my parcel back from the post office and take it to their depot, so i can collect it!

So is there not a business for someone, or an add on for someone who already has a warehouse.

Ie, order your goods to warehouse address, warehouse opens to 6am-8Pm, collect your items from warehouse, pay warehouse £5.

Now as far as i know no such business exists, is it not viable?

I know i would happily pay £5 per parcel for hassle free collection.

What do we think?

Every corner shop in the country is now a delivery/collection hub for couriers. I left a package at mine today for Hermes to pick up. UPS do it too. Interparcel has the options. 10am-10pm and it's cheaper as well.

The parcel drop points around me (for receiving deliveries, not sending back) seem to be restricted on the size they will take and only take small items.

It is annoying though - I have the same problem as the OP. I clearly have a "safe place" designated for my deliveries from Amazon - but do the numpty delivery drivers use it? No - virtually never. Instead, they deliver it to my neighbour - who works nights, and is trying to sleep!

You know those parking websites where you can advertise your drive and let people pay to park on it, well why not one where you advertise yourself as a delivery address?

ie grandma at no 98 who's always in lets (you & anyone else in the area) put her as the delivery address. She gets paid for the package she receives from (each customer). As she's a residential house you pop round and pick it up when you're back from work. If you think about it 1 house could serve at least a hundred nearby ; in other words you wouldn't need a massive sign-up rate for it to be viable. She could have opening hours for collection as part of the deal eg up to 9pm every night.

UPS Access Point
myHermes
Collect Plus

All use convenience stores / petrol stations / Dry Cleaners etc.

Then there's
Amazon Locker and other self serve collection points.

I don't think granny would want lot's of people knocking on her door, huge security and safety issues.

All that jazz

As mentioned by others, plenty of places already offer this kind of thing. I order a fair bit of stuff online too and I specifically look for sellers who offer delivery to Argos (in my local Homebase, oddly) or Amazon Locker/Collect+ or whatever it's called. I avoid anything sent by Royal Fail like the plague because I work nights and can't take parcels at noon when they arrive and nor can I get to their collection depot in the 2 hours it's open in the morning. There's no cost to Ebay sellers to send to Argos so if they won't send there then it's their loss and I order from someone who will.

I got home last night to find 1 part of an order had been delivered by Royal Mail, who were happy to leave it in my porch, and a ticket from UPS saying that the other part of the order had been left at a local convenience store (3miles away) that I could collect from, or contact them to make alternative arrangements.

Hopped in the car, 5 minutes down the road, picked up my parcel from an otherwise empty shop, and home again.

Oh, and another parcel had been left for me by DHL, to go and collect from the convenience store just .45 miles away in the outside electronically controlled set of cupboards. Just needed a texted PIN to get access.

This service already exists!

I still prefer DPD though, I just tell them on line to dump the stuff in the porch, which they do. Then they text me a photo of it sat there as evidence that they actually delivered it smile
