I've had a client ask me about this

http://targeted-email-finder.gsa-online.de/

They want to use it to send B2B emails on a one-off basis, with opt-out. I've had a Google and can't find anything similar, and my common sense detector is asking why it only appears to be available in Germany. My normal guy for this stuff is on holiday so I'm asking the PH massive in a game show style if it's hot or not?

They have the usual 'don't use it for spam' disclaimer but is it going to open up a world of st, or could it be a shortcut to some easy sales?

I know it's a scraper but where does the illegality come in?

Is it illegal to scrape data? Or is it the use of the data? AIUI B2B email is fair game if it is relevant to their business and they have an opt-out within the email? No?

Like I said my head is telling me there's something not right, but I need to give them a why. (Or tell them this is well outside my remit and to ask someone else!)

Frankly it is how to get a bad rep and lose business.

I make a point of *never* doing business with anyone that spams me - I'm not alone.

I'm not advocating it and wouldn't use it myself, but what I'm asking is less about the moral or practical and more about the legal aspect.

I'm just suspicious as it's Germany based and it's not an area I know about.

One of their other products:

"Note: GSA Captcha Breaker should be used for research and by the visually impaired only. Any illegal use of GSA Captcha Breaker is strictly prohibited."

Definitely no.

Most decent sites will know this is a scraper and either throw a fake address at it or show it something thats useless. Would have worked 10 years ago

I make a point of *suing* anyone that spams me. It's a slam dunk DPA and PECR violation which means decent money.

It will certainly be against the Acceptable Usage Terms of his internet service provider and they will cut him off. Organisations such as https://www.spamhaus.org/ or http://www.cauce.org/ will black list his domain blocking all his regular email and potential any website(s) mentioned in the junk email.

In practice it is essentially to use a double opt in process to collect email addresses for email marketing.

Essentially it's about using the DPA to recover Distress Damages from the people who trade in your info. Drop me a PM with your email addy and I'll pass a load of info on. It's reasonably straightforward, I got £200 out of one company the other week without even needing to resort to a court claim, and have had many, many, more just turn round and cough up when court papers land.
