Advertising on Company Car
Discussion
A question arrose this morning in the office.
In the absence of a reply from the accountant I wonder if I could ask the seemingly limitless knowledge of Pistonheads.
My next Company car might have the company logos on it for advertising purposes as they sponsor me at a sporting hobby I participate in.
Will that effect my CCT liability?

Ah I've worked this out. So they say - 'In return for giving you money (sponsoring your hobby), the comapny car we let you drive will carry our logo to advertise ourselves'?Simpo Two said:

Its not quite how the conversation went no.............Whilst looking into my next car it transpire that the tax liability is 10% higher.
The conversation was in relation to limiting that liability.

What specific expense do you want to offset against your business profit?
Sorry I don't understand. We were discussing that if we had company logos on my next company car would that effect the amount of company car tax I pay each month?
Understood.
My question - why should it?
Are you assuming that putting logos on the car magically transforms the car into an asset that is no longer subject to a taxable Benefit in Kind?
Merely putting signage on a vehicle has no effect whatsoever. You would have to make the car a fully non-personal use vehicle i.e. not even CAPABLE of being used for ANY non business related journeys.
You SHOULD be able to reclaim the cost of having the signage applied as a legitimate "advertising" cost though - which was what I was hinting at.

Yes the assumption was that it may lessen the taxable liability.
Clearly not which is a bummer as it looks a fair chunk more cash monthly for the next car.

Have you thought about getting a more efficient car e.g. plug in hybrid or similar?
Maybe better from a tax angle, but it's questionable whether they are really betrer for the environ. Have to look at total picture, not just one or 2 simple figures, the damage caused creating one of these beasts is huge. Thanks guys.
Yes I have looked at a commercial type Pick up but yet to find one refined enough for the 50000 miles I cover annually. I am going to test the VW Amorak.
I have just had a quote on the X5 hybrid but think the overall MPG will not be attractive to the company as a running cost as it only does 17 miles on its battery power then its a two litre petrol with a realistic 35mpg return.

Have considered it, but its too small.
Another reason for the larger 4x4 style need is my hips hurt after a trip in the current 520 and not in the more upright weekend car I have.
Hence the need for the larger 4x4 cars.
50000 miles per annum in a car bigger than that is going to cost you or your company or both a lot of money. Another reason for the larger 4x4 style need is my hips hurt after a trip in the current 520 and not in the more upright weekend car I have.
