The company runs white vans for its works but directors and a manager are often, weekly, invited to business meetings, pre work tender meets and networking etc and turning up in a van isn't always the best look.

So is it okay firstly for a company to buy or lease a car for use by employees for work use and could it be used for some personal use by them if strict mileage records were kept and the mileage paid back each month at a set cost per mile? This would prevent a single person having to pay car tax etc.

Secondly is there any restriction on the type of car before the HMRC start to get funny? E Type Jag, 997 Turbo, E60 M5?

If the car was swapped each year and the initial outlay more a less recovered so it was shown as a less expensive option the renting / leasing would this help?

Thanks

Is this a tax question?

I guess tax will make up one element of it, yes.

Might be worth rephrasing as "Can I get my company to buy me a supercar?"

Ha maybe but if I could afford a super car I'm not sure I would want work colleagues to drive it seeing the state of their cars. It's not my company but I love cars and I can buy right so hopefully this is an option.

It genuinely would have to be used by at least three people which I would imagine is a rule of it being a pool car?

Our pool car is used by one person only. No private mileage. It's always parked at base each night. Records are kept of all mileage.

I think the key rule for a pool car is it needs to be at base/office over night - it should not be taken home by anyone or used for their commute to the usual place of work.

So it isn't your company, but you have decided that turning up to meetings in a van is not the right image.

Now you want your boss to spend his money on buying you an e-type, that you promise not to use without good cause. So when his customers say "fking hell, that junior accounts trainee you've got has a flash motor!", your boss can reply "Oh, that e-type? Naah, that's just something we have sitting around for anyone to use whever they feel they feel like it. And yes, I will knock 50% off your quote."

But it's ok, because you're 'good at buying cars'?

The vehicle staying at the base is not really a problem. So any restriction on the car bought?

Doofus - You're a going a bit off track there!

The definition of a pool car is that it cannot be allotted to just one person.

It also MUST be kept at the business premises overnight and it CANNOT be used for ANY non business related trips.
