Hi all,

We need to crimp butt terminals on to cables - lots of them. We've crimped c2500 in the last few days but only have a hand tool for crimping.

We have another 15,000+ to do - any ideas?

We've looked at subbing them but the time constraint is too tight - I'd ideally like a solution that will crimp several at once, but any suggestions that will prevent the blisters that doing it this way is causing!

I'd be grateful if anyone has a solution to offer

I think you're going to struggle.

The only way i see of doing this is with an automated crimp machine and then your crimps probably need loading onto a strip for feeding, not come in a bag. An automated crimp machine is probably going to take too long to obtain and is a bit ott if youre only do this work once.

My only other suggestion is to sub it out (i know you dont favour this) but there are a number of contract manufacturers in the NW who might be able to help with a quick turn around. If you need details drop me a PM, so i dont fall foul of any advertising restrictions.

@hab thanks, trying to formulate a plan with a fly press, but, as you say, manual load. It's a right pain but trying to get a customer out of the sh*t.

@winston lol thanks for that. Have already broken most of them, bloody hard work with a crappy manual crimping tool!

Trying to find one is proving a problem, and that's before I start on the inserts!

Have a look at the Novopress Powercrimp, no idea what they cost or where you'd get one, but it looks like it will do small cables like you have.

What are you crimping power or voice / data cables?

I've got an electric crimper at work that can do these.

PM if you want to outsource it, not sure I fancy doing 15,000 of them but if the price is right... smile

You'll have a right forearm like Popeye by the time you've finished that lot.

Certainly have a blistered palm, I know that much!

It's not a job we'll do again in a hurry, no matter how much crap the customer is in. Not without the proper equipment, anyway.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, nearly finished now
