Adding a name to your home

can call it whatever you want but will still have to use the number and street address until the posties get used to it. and even then delivery retards will get it wrong.
why would they be retards? its hard to find a property just with a name in a road say half a mile long especially if the pretentious owner wants to call their house something like "primrose cottage" 55 average street cockinmouth and doesn't put the actual official number on the delivery request info. How is a delivery driver meant to know it is actually number 55?
If a house has a number its a number not a name and is crass and pretentious to call it a name. I cant see it adding anything to a value when you still have to use the number in any postal address.
Just buy a house with a name if it is so important to you....

Indeed. I was going to view a house with a view to buying it. Was given a name of the street (about 1 mile long) and the house name M******n Lough. Searched and searched, could not find it. Tried the PO, they had not heard of it, got posties map out with all the house names, not there. Gave up, went home (no for sale sign either). Later discovered the owner was a snob, the actual name was M******n Cottage.its hard to find a property just with a name in a road say half a mile long especially if the pretentious owner wants to call their house something like "primrose cottage" 55 average street cockinmouth and doesn't put the actual official number on the delivery request info. Around here there aren't many houses with numbers - and if there are then it would def. be a new build...
nightmare for delivery drivers - but that is Cotswold villages...
to make it even more fun I have a different postcode for my drive - and the house, house one is on invoices as is registered address for the bank, delivery is to a different street and different postcode
surprisingly perhaps - most deliveries arrive, seems that most delivery drivers are reasonably intelligent!

My house is around 300 years old. The original deeds state it being called Rose Cottage. However its currently just a number.
We did consider re-using the name when we purchased the property, but some bright spark down the road has named their house Rose Cottage. Figured it was just going to be more hassle than its worth, so didn't bother.
I am sure there must be rules around two properties called the same name in the same road.

It was well covered in the Daily Wail a few days ago.
Basically, housebuyers will pay over the odds for a posh name, to impress their friends, family and random strangers in callcentres. Most people are closet snobs. Something like "Rose Cottage in Windsor Lane" will fetch more than "600 Moss Side".

Surely it's a pain in the arse when getting deliveries etc?
Unless you have a mansion and a big estate it's a bit silly no?
This! Our house has a name, have regular issues with delivery companies plus getting a dirty kebab delivered can take forever. Some delivery drivers don't even attempt to find the house, return to sender claiming address incomplete. Dirty babs have turned up cold because, "Sorry mate couldn't find your house". It's only a bloody 3 bed semi on a main road, just called a name as it was built many years after every house so couldn't have a number as that'd be even more confusing. You could still add a sign, but continue to use the numbered address for everything important. You never know, you might get a free parcel or two delivered by the 'tards'.
